  1. How much time did you spend on that collage? :)

I thought the scene with the monkeys and the bones at the start of ‘2001:’ was the most boring thing I’d ever seen on any screen. And I heard the music first in a Roadrunner cartoon, so it’s indelibly associated with that for me!

  2. Not much time.. Was an experiment with Microsoft publisher.. does a pretty decent job.. but not anywhere close to what photoshop can do.. :) .. I remember watching 2001 with you and how slow we thought it was… but it is a movie I’ll remember for a while :) …. read the review for it and it makes more sense..The retro movies have really kick-ass posters.

  3. What was the name of that place near LSR where we used to get Mississippi Mud Pies — they had really nice movie posters on their walls.

2001 is clearly a well made movie, are very unique, but it’s not something I’d describe as entertaining. I like the last segment though. Especially when Pink Floyd’s Echoes is played with it.

  4. The Big Chill.

I’ve seen only 5 of these movies :(

  5. Man. This poster; the more you look at it, the more you think about it. And tantalising too. For example, what’s hiding behind Rashomon (the one with the courier new font?)

  6. I can’t even see the Courier New one!

  7. That’s Hello Dolly .. a Barbara Streisand musical… very frothy and light something about getting Walter Mathau (who is crabby and rich) to get married or something..I liked the songs in it..

  8. What’s on the bottom left? And is the one between Sunset Blvd. and Pan’s Labyrinth ‘Lost In Translation’?

I remember how you guys described Hello Dolly to me. “Very *aggresive* dancing!”
I still can’t think of a better description of that movie.

Still hate Barbara Streisand though. If Louie Armstrong didn’t make a cameo, I’d have probably just sulked about having watched it.

And just to throw my two cents in:
Thought 2001:… was brilliant, but hated it. Took me three attempts to make it to the end. The only other English movie that took me that much effort was probably Born on the Fourth of July.
(2001:… was *way* better though. If for no other reason but the FX and the music. And how funky that damn monolith looked.)

Did anyone ever watch 2010? The one with John Lithgow? I couldn’t bring myself to; after 2001:… it seemed just too damn hard.

  9. Lost in translation.. that’s right… and the one on the bottom left is Rosemary’s baby … a movie that actually freaked me out..its a Roman Polanski movie and stars Mia Farrow.. What are you’re favourites of the ones here?

  10. George, you idiot, we saw Hello Dolly together in my room. We rented it from the guy in Mukherjee Nagar. Well, Hello Dolly!
Spae, the one behind Rashomon *is* the one with the courier new font, now revealed to be Hello Dolly!

PS: We also watched Rosemary’s Baby together. It was actually a very very well made film.

  11. Ah.. Now I remember.. pretty good stuff.. want to watch it agian!.. I think that was a phase we watched a LOT of movies but I can’t remember.. seems like ages ago :)

  12. Ah, yes, I see Mia Farrow now.
Was so intent on trying to read the text, I missed her entire profile.
(I suck at those 3D image things too.)

Hard to pick favourites out of that lot, though. The ones that *wouldn*t make it on my list though would be:
    – Sound of Music (entirely your fault, George. I can only hear “So long, farewell” so many times before seeing the Nazi’s point of view.)
    – Spellbound (more of a North By Northwest fan)
    – A Streetcar Named Desire (great acting and all, but I thought the story was a little weak – more of a stage thing)
    – Hello Dolly (see earlier comment)
    – Rent (I’d rather watch it as a bunch of videos than as a movie)
    – 2001:… (despite finally growing up and being able to appreciate Kubrick’s brilliance, still can’t forget just how much of an effort it was)
    – Gone With The Wind (just because. I have issues with spoilt women.)

I remember you guys doing this whole movie marathon thing. I’d come back after practicals, and you’d both tell me how I *have to watch* so-and-so.
    Was very annoying.

  13. @Nav: Dude replying to your email is going to be the end of me. I start writing and then I think I should tell you about this and about that and that as well… I have the opposite of writer’s block; I can keep relating irrelevant stories till the cows come home. Anyway, expect a reply any day now.
Also, Gone with the Wind man? Oh, what a snoozefest. And NBNW is one of my favourite Hitchcocks as well. Don’t think I have seen Spellbound.
